Kanawha Glass Company
Crackle glass was made by blowing molten glass into a shape in a mold, then dipping it into water or sawdust, and then refiring it to seal the cracks. This process resulted in glass that sparkles in sunlight. Crackle glass was a specialty at Kanawha Glass Co. and formed a large part of their production.
Producing good craackle glass takes skill and the breakage rate is very high. Imagine if you will, a business where as much as 50% of the work produced broke during production. This is what the crackle glass blowers had to deal with.
